As I was one of the few people who quite enjoyed The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall And Felt Superbad About It (reviewed here) I must admit that I was quietly optimistic about the immaturely-titled Breaking Wind. The fact that it was also a spoof of the Twilight movies increased my optimisim (note – despite the title this actually spends more time spoofing the first three movies than the latest release). Oh, how misguided I was.
As I considered what I was going to write for this review I could feel the will to live slipping away from me and trying to penetrate my keyboard to disappear into the vastness of cyberspace. There was so much I didn’t want to waste energy typing.
The acting is okay, I suppose, but everyone here should be looking embarrassed for being involved with the whole endeavour. It’s quite a telling fact that I rated Vampires Suck higher than this movie (and I actually consider my rating for this film to be quite generous). At least that film didn’t stoop so low as to cast Danny Trejo in a small, dignity-stripping, role. Why Danny Trejo, whyyyyy? Your reply should have been “Machete don’t do awful spoofs!”
The script is awful. You may enjoy some moments full of flatulence and obvious gags about sex but, then again, you may be like me and find them just too tiresome and juvenile to be funny. It’s like watching two monkeys throw their poo at each other – someone will laugh at it but that doesn’t make it comedy.
It pains me to say even this little amount of praise but there were a few gags scattered here and there that did make me smile. When not preoccupied with breaking wind or getting people to talk dirty, the film manages to fit in one or two moments of silliness that almost make a few minutes of the runtime bearable.
Craig Moss will have to do a hell of a lot to make up for this one. Most irritating of all, the movie isn’t even that long and yet 5 minutes of the finale is simply footage of “Twi-hards” showing their love for the movies while they have a webcam pointed at them. I would risk saying that this at least ends the movie on a laugh but I’d be completely lying. It’s just a sad time watching sad people react to a sad product with a sad excess of emotions. I can hardly think of anything . . . . . . . . . . more sad.
Breaking Wind has been released on shiny disc form on Monday 2nd April and the disc comes with a couple of paltry, teeny tiny extras that I don’t even count as extras. Don’t buy it. You’d actually get more laughs from the original Twilight films.
