Jason Statham’s new film, the action thriller Safe, had its premiere in London at the IMAX last night and flickfeast was there to catch up with one of the hardest working actors in the business. And we mean that both ways. The generous and gregarious actor dazzled us with his wit, charm and style, he dates a a model you know, as he ran down his character Luke Wright, “a man down on his luck who is looking for a way out. He finds an opportunity when he crosses the path of a young girl who saves him and in turn saves her. She gives him a reason to live.”
While the character type isn’t a departure from many of the roles he has played before, the highly successful and bankable actor knows he still needs to bring the action to the screen. His exquisite fighting techniques are used to maximum effect in the many frenetic sequences in the movie that sees him evade the Russian mafia, Asian Triad gangs and some very bent cops, something fans are sure to appreciate. Not to mention his wonderful dead pan comic style.
After all, it’s still fun and entertainment, something Statham concedes as being very important to the viewers, wanting to give them their “£8.50 worth of it.”
Safe opens 4th May.
