Disney’s Planes flew into pole position at the UK Box Office this weekend as it opened to £1.74 million.  Inspired by the world of Cars, this action-packed comedy adventure about Dusty, a big hearted crop duster and his dream of competing as a high-flying air racer, is the firm family favourite at the cinema and it is on course to soar above the other animated titles for the rest of the summer holidays.

Other new opener Kick-Ass 2 was left in Planes’ wake taking £1.48 million over the weekend.

From above the world of Cars comes Disney’s Planes, an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.   Inspired by the world of Cars, the film is directed by Disneytoon Studios veteran and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (King of the Hill, The Simpsons), and features the voices of Dane Cook as Dusty, John Cleese as Bulldog and Teri Hatcher as Dottie.

Robin Yacoubian has been the Editor of Flickfeast for more years than he cares to remember. He has always had an appetite for film that borders on unhealthy and outwardly extols the merits or World and Indie cinema, whilst secretly loving nothing better than a good blockbuster If asked what his favourite film was he would always reply "Not the Shawshank Redemption". Not that it is a bad film… far from it... just not his favourite.
