Hot on the heels of Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt showing off their fresh sixties threads, Margot Robbie has given us a first look at her Once Upon A Time In Hollywood character. Unlike her male co-stars, the Australian actor will be playing a real-life figure from film history: Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski’s then-wife who was murdered by the Manson Family.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is set in 1969, with DiCaprio as struggling TV actor Rick Dalton and Pitt as his stunt double/best friend Cliff Booth. Dalton is next-door neighbours with Robbie’s Tate. The film has already caused some controversy thanks to its original release date of August 9, which would have coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Tate–LaBianca murders.

How much the film will actually centre — or depict — those horrific events remains to be seen. What we do know is that Robbie certainly looks the part, with the costuming, hair and make-up teams doing an uncannily good job at transforming her into the Valley of the Dolls and The Fearless Vampire Killers, as seen in her Instagram post below.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood also stars Burt Reynolds, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino and Damian Lewis, many of them playing real life figures. The latter will appear as Steve McQueen, who was invited to the dinner party where Tate and others were murdered, with Fanning playing a key member of the Manson family.

The film will also feature repeat Tarantino collaborators Zoë Bell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, and Kurt Russell, as well as first-timers Timothy Olyphant, James Marsden, and Scoot McNairy.

Following the fallout of the #MeToo campaign and allegations levied against Harvey Weinstein, Tarantino broke away from the producer for the first time in his filmmaking career. After a prolonged bidding process, the film eventually wound up with Sony. Filming began in Los Angeles on June 18 and is scheduled to wrap this November.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is scheduled to be released July 26, 2019.
