To mark the conclusion of the BFI’s Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder season which has seen a celebration of the best the sci-fi genre has had to offer through both television and film, the 3rd April will see a UK wide cinema rerelease of Sir Ridley Scott’s 2007 film Blade Runner: The Final Cut, the definitive version of his 1982 masterpiece.
Based on novelist Philip K. Dick’s bestseller Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, and starring Harrison Ford (in one of his most famous roles outside of Star Wars and Indiana Jones), Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah, the film became an immediate smash hit with its depiction of a bleak, futuristic world of strange cities and a world no longer lit by the sun. With groundbreaking special effects and a beautifully haunting score by Greek composer Vangelis, Scott’s visualisation of a future dystopian nightmare, mesmerised audiences upon its first release, and looks set to do so again for a whole new generation.

In a statement from the BFI to co-incide with the definitive version’s new trailer (released today) Scott said, ““The Final Cut is my definitive version of BLADE RUNNER, and I’m thrilled that audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy it in the way I intended – on the big screen. This new trailer captures the essence of the film and I hope will inspire a new generation to see BLADE RUNNER when it is re-released across the UK on 3 April.”
