Oh well, trying to mix Rosemary’s Baby with a slasher movie isn’t the worst idea I’ve ever heard. It’s a shame that the execution of this concept pretty much fails on every level and the movie limps to a rating of just below average thanks to a few individual moments that managed to save the whole thing from being a complete snoozefest.
The story is all about a bunch of women who go out to meet their heavily pregnant friend and to show their support. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows though, mostly due to the fact that the pregnant woman knows that one of them has planned to run off with her husband. But she doesn’t know which one.
Written and directed by Pablo Illanes, there’s just something stopping every aspect of this movie from being good. It’s not dire but it struggles to keep just above that level.
The acting from all concerned is okay, nothing more, nothing less. Ingrid Isensee is the girl with the prominent bump and does well while Patricia Lopez has fun in a role that’s quite flaky but nobody else makes that much of an impression.
The killers aren’t interesting enough, the death scenes fall just short of the mark (though some moments are impressively gory) and there’s a real lack of logic, plausibility and continuity once we get to the halfway point.
Sadly, even the visuals are unspectacular. There’s no textural sensation overload as there was in, the otherwise dull as ditchwater, Amer and there are no flourishes that help distract you from the overall lacklustre feel of the thing.
