We arrive, once more, at the end of another full year, another year in which myself and fellow Flickfeasters have cast our eyes over far too many movies to count. But, fool that I am, I thought I’d give it a go anyway. What follows is an incomplete summary of my movie-viewing year, going by an online listing of 2012 cinema releases (not necessarily films MADE in 2012, mind you). I tend to cover my own viewings because a) that’s quite enough to be getting on with b) I don’t know just what everyone else saw and c) I’m writing this up so I can choose to be selfish if I want to.
The following movies have all either been reviewed here or over at my blog. Sadly, there are far too many of them that I have yet to revisit before noting down my final thoughts so in those instances I have just given my rating.
If my cinema trips in 2012 stick in my mind for only reason it will probably be due to the number of overhyped, “unmissable” disappointments. Shame, Prometheus, The Dark Knight Rises and, of course, Skyfall all had their fans but there isn’t one out of the four that I actually loved. However, there’s no denying that three of those movies were undeniable events and, despite my own views, I encourage people to see them ASAP and discover if they agree with the majority or agree with me. And I’m still happy that the release of Skyfall finally made me finish my overview of the franchise for Bond month.
Anyway, here is The List.

Then there were the many movies that didn’t receive (or are awaiting) a cinema release. A lot of those films appear at Dead By Dawn while even more enjoy a brief moment in the limelight at the EIFF (with Unconditional – reviewed here – being yet another favourite of mine that I urge people to seek out). These festivals, and more, were covered dilligently by Flickfeasters. Check out what delights were available to Kezia at the Cornwall Film Festival here, then look at the many films covered by Chris at the New York Film Festival here and, of course, search through the many reviews pertaining to the movies shown at the London Film Festival.
The annoying thing is that, on top of the movies listed here, I OWN titles such as Safe House, Carnage, Martha Marcy May Marlene and a few others. I just haven’t managed to watch them yet. A year isn’t always enough time, especially when it’s a choice between watching a movie or getting to interview a favourite director such as Stuart Gordon.
Feel free to argue with the ratings offered up here and let us know what movies you’re looking forward to in 2013 (which – *ahem, Tue* – looks as if it’s going to be a fantastic year for sci-fi fans, in my opinion).
Happy New Year!
