Well, that’s it done and dusted for another year.  The 88th annual Academy Awards took place last night in Hollywood and there were, of course, a number of dead certs: the subject of racism and the underrepresentation of black actors dominated proceedings; Leonardo DiCaprio got the gong for Best Actor; British costume designer Jenny Beaven rocked her signature ‘biker’ look when picking up her award for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road.

There were also, however, a few surprises – Mad Max: Fury Road virtually cleaned up on the technical side taking an impressive six awards, whilst British actor Mark Rylance beat off stiff competition to take home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the cold ward thriller Bridge of Spies.  The winners (and losers) can now take a few months to get their breath back, until the whole thing starts again for next year’s awards.
