Whilst everyone else is last-minute buying Father’s Day gifts from B&Q to celebrate another year of the Bank of Dad, let’s instead celebrate one of the worst onscreen fathers of all time: Jack Torrence.
The Shining (1980) saw Torrence (a rabid Nicholson) relocate the fruit of his loins to a haunted abandoned hotel in the arse-end of nowhere and leaving him to his own devices. When unimpressed with young Danny’s (Danny Lloyd) behaviour, he doesn’t get disappointed, he gets mad. Like, axe-swinging, chase you around a maze, mad. Maybe he just got tools for Father’s Day. Well, I suppose he WAS the caretaker!
