Amateur film-makers from across the globeset to hit the big time at the 2012 Jameson Empire Awards
– Jameson Empire Done in 60 Seconds finalists announced by Chris O’Dowd & film industry experts –
After months of frantic filming, editing and producing, five budding film-makers from the UK, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Chile will be taking to the glittering red carpet alongside the biggest names in the film industry this weekend, thanks to Jameson Irish Whiskey and Empire magazine.
Tonight’s Global Final of the annual amateur film-making competition – held at the London Film Museum – saw 29 shortlisted contestants battle it out, with Philip Askins from the UK (Herge’s Raiders of the Lost Ark), Andrew Norton from Ireland (District 9), Indira Suleimenova from Kazakhstan (Black Swan), Rosen Lliev from Bulgaria (Edward Scissorhands) and Gonzalo Ruiz and Joaquin Vergara from Chile (Spiderman) announced as finalists in the Jameson Empire Done in 60 Seconds competition, where they will now go on to compete for the top prize – to be crowned the Jameson Empire Done in 60 Seconds champion at Sunday night’s star-studded Jameson Empire Awards.
This year’s entries were scrutinised second-by-second by an exceptional judging panel of movie-making experts including actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd, Sky Movies presenter Alex Zane, Monsters Director Gareth Edwards and Empire Magazine Editor, Mark Dinning. Fighting off stiff competition from 19 countries as far afield as India, Russia and the Ukraine, the 2012 competitors pulled out all the stops with their remakes of classic movies including Titanic, Flight Club and 2012 sleeper-hit, Drive.
In order to reach this prestigious stage the director-hopefuls-of-the-future were challenged by Jameson and Empire to recreate their favourite film by distilling the picture down to its essence to create a one minute home-movie masterpiece.
The five finalists will now attend the glamorous Jameson Empire Awards on Sunday evening, where the ultimate winner will be unveiled and handed their very own Jameson Empire Award whilst sharing the stage with legends of the silver screen, as well as being given the opportunity to attend an upcoming film shoot in the UK.
