It seems that, as fodder for horror movies, those World War II monsters the Nazis will never go out of fashion. With this in mind a fresh wave or terror is about to be unleashed in the form of the new Brit indie chiller Backtrack , also known as Nazi Vengeance. The story follows four young friends as they go camping on England’s South Downs. One of them, Ralph, however is haunted by visions of a Nazi attack on the area in 1940 in which he believes he, in a past life, may have been involved. Soon, of course, his flashbacks become all too real with horrifying results for them all.
Starring veteran British actor Julian Glover – who contemporary audiences will recognise as Grand Maester Pycelle from The Game of Thrones, but those of a certain age will know better as featuring in such 1980’s classics as the Bond movie For Your Eyes Only and third Indiana Jones film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade – the film’s release has been delayed for a year and is being released straight to DVD in the UK and digital viewing platforms in the US, which may ring alarm bells. Watching the trailer though, the film – penned by scriptwriter Mick Sands and directed by directorial newcomer Tom Sands – looks like a fun enough horror romp with a realistic 1940’s atmosphere, and could be worth checking out particularly by aficionados of the Nazi horror sub-genre.
