Alright, alright, alright! Just when you thought the McConaissance was dead in the water, here he is in White Boy Rick. The title’s got you already, hasn’t it?
Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs, White Boy Rick is based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father (McConaughey) and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr. (Richie Merritt). Wershe Jnr became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.
Coming on like a cross between Goodfellas, The Departed and…well, almost anything else by Martin Scorsese, White Boy Rick promises graphic drug use, proper gangsta LOLS and a bit where McConaughey makes you cry. What more could you want?
Also starring Bel Powley, Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Rory Cochrane (Dazed and Confused) and Ray Donovan‘s Eddie Marsan, with Bruce Dern and Piper Laurie (Carrie), feast your eyes on the trailer below…
White Boy Rick comes to cinemas on December 7th. What do you think to the trailer? Let us know in the comments below.
